Blue Chalk
The directors partnered with Blue Chalk Media, a digital media company founded by people who believe in the power of nonfiction visual storytelling. It is headquartered in Brooklyn, NY, and has a West Coast office in Portland, OR, as well. With roots in photojournalism, documentary film, cable television and digital communications, the Blue Chalk team is equipped to serve third-party clients and partners as well as to publish independently.
Megumi Nishikura, Producer
Megumi's passion is to use the medium of film and video to remind people of our common humanity. In 2009, she began to explore stories from the multiracial community in both Japan and the United States. Her directorial feature debut, “Hafu - the mixed-race experience in Japan” screened theatrically in Japan, aired on PBS, and won the Best Documentary award at the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival in 2013. Other works include environmental documentaries for the United Nations and global and social issue videos for various foundations, NGOs and non-profit organizations.
Jamie Francis, Director of Photography
Jamie Francis grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, but his work as a visual storyteller has taken him all over the world. His essays about Iraq enduring world sanctions and Afghans emerging from war earned international awards. He has worked on extensive documentary projects in the U.S., including life along a small street in St. Petersburg, FL, riders of the public bus system in Columbia, SC and families who lost a loved one in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. For the past decade, while working as a journalist at The Oregonian, his passion has been documenting the land and people of rural Oregon. He is based in Portland.
Danny Guy, Editor
Danny grew up in Minneapolis, MN, as the oldest of three brothers and an avid people-watcher before moving to Kentucky on a whim to earn his degree in Photojournalism from Western Kentucky University. He loves to look at, listen to, and share the unsung stories of others through documentary storytelling, and especially loves character study pieces. After graduating in the spring of 2014, Danny interned with National Geographic in Washington, D.C. and spent two weeks shooting in Yellowstone. He then spent 7 months as a contractor editor/shooter with Blue Chalk Media in Portland, OR, where he was presented with the privilege of editing this film. He is currently based in Louisville, where he works with the media production company Kertis Creative.
